Salix humilis (Prairie Willow) is unusual for a native willow in that it can be found in both wet and dry conditions. It is one of the most common willows found in prairies. It is slower growing than most other willows and is typically less than 4′ tall. Although called Prairie Willow it is also commonly found in savannas as well. This plant can spreadthrough roots particularlywhen cut or burned in a prescribed fire so be cautiouson small landscapes as it can be a bit aggressive.
