Native to areas of Asia, from India to Malaysia and Java, this tropical tree can reach more than 100 feet outdoors in its native habitat. But due to lower light levels indoors, it stays much smaller. Its earned its common nameRubber Treebecause its thick, milky-white sap was used to make a rubber-like compound.
Burgundy Rubber Tree grows best in medium to bright light. Placing it within 3 to 4 feet of a large, unobstructed east- or west-facing window is often ideal. It can be supplemented or grow entirely under artificial lights, as well.
Water as the top half or so of the potting mix dries to the touch. Provide average household temperatures and average to above-average relative humidity levels.
