Echeveria ‘Orion’ has slightly elongated leaves taper towards the center of the rosette and feature shades of lavender and olive green, accentuated by a thick coating of powdery farina. In bright light conditions, the margins of each leaf will blush pink, adding yet another layer of contrast to the thick, fleshy leaves of Orion. With a wide, low growth habit, this variety can reach up to 6 inches in diameter, and makes an exceptional filler component within any succulent arrangement, where it contrasts especially well with darker colored companion plants.
Bright conditions are essential in encouraging Orion to display its richest coloration, as well as to maintain its compact rosette shape in dimmer conditions, the plant may appear more green and the rosettes may being to elongate in a process known as etiolating. To avoid issues with rot, be sure to provide Orion with porous soil within a well-draining pot and water thoroughly but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely in between. Further, take care not to pour water into the rosette, instead watering the soil surface directly.
Hardy only to Zone 10, Orions thick leaves require protection from frost and as the weather warms in the summer, stalks of pink blooms will emerge above the rosettes, adding yet another layer of color!
